POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports the Sports Information Office as it relates to game management, website support, social media, broadcasting, media relations, reporting and recordkeeping and other related responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility of the Sports Information Director is to assist the Associate Athletic Director for Communication in providing the services of the Sports Information Office to coaches, student-athletes, athletic administrators, the media, visiting teams, the PacWest, the NCAA and Warrior fans. Duties include:
1. Promoting Westmont Athletics teams, coaches and players while serving as the primary media contact for designated teams.
2. Writing press releases, game summaries, player profiles and human-interest stories in relation to Westmont’s teams.
3. Reporting results and statistical information to the conference and national offices and assisting with reports and required filings to those offices.
4. Producing social media content for both department and team accounts
5. Hiring, training, scheduling and supervising student employees for content creation related responsibilities.
6. Supporting the broadcasts of Westmont Sports Network through on-air broadcasting and mentoring student broadcasts.
7. Participation in maintenance of the Westmont Athletics website.
8. Coordinating with coaches for nomination of and voting for student-athletes for awards such as “Player of the Week”, conference awards, all-region awards, all-American awards. Nomination and voting for student-athlete awards from College Sports Communicators such as all-region, all-American, Academic All-American.
9. Preserving records by archiving stories and statistics.
10. Providing statistical services, using conference and NCAA approved software.
11. Collaborating with other departments and producing publications including game programs, team prospectuses, recruitment brochures, etc.
12. Night and weekend work is a regular part of this position.
13. The position requires traveling to games, especially during the postseason, as well as occasional travel for conference meetings and conventions.
14. 15. The violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
16. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and the Associate Athletic Director for Communication.
Reports to: Associate Athletic Director for Communication
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in communications or sports administration. Requires 3-5 years’ experience in a related field. Other requirements include: personal affirmation of the Christian character and mission of the College; clear understanding of and ability to articulate the distinctives of a Christian Liberal Arts education; strong interpersonal and organizational skills, good administrative skills. Strong writing ability is essential. Experience in sports information and experience with content management systems is preferred. Knowledge of Associated Press writing style and scoring software is desirable.
