The University of Maryland Athletics Department is seeking qualified applications for the position of Strategic Communications Assistant. The position will work as a member of the Strategic Communications and Content Development unit.
Responsibilities: Among the tasks, the Strategic Communications Assistants will be charged with include:
Primary media relations contact for selected sports as assigned, including softball in Spring 2025. The individual will be responsible for team media coverage, press releases, game notes, in-game stat keeping, statistical updates, game coverage, social media, writing features and recaps and updating of the umterps.com website.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required in journalism, communications or related field. Candidates must have outstanding writing, strategic communications and interpersonal skills as well as strong knowledge of social media and digital platforms. They should be proficient with desktop publishing and statistical (Statcrew, Genius) software. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends and available to travel to road games and extended road trips.
Candidates with previous experience using SIDEARM Sports for website posting and experience with Genius and StatCrew will be given priority.
Preferred experience as a media contact for two years in college or professional athletics.
Compensation:This position will be paid at an hourly rate of $18 with the potential to earn overtime pay. This position runs through June 30, 2025, with a potential for renewal at the end of the first term. Cumulative pay between $36,000-$40,000 for 12 months. This position does not include benefits.
