Assistant Director of Strategic Communications
Hampton University is seeking an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications to assist in publicizing the University’s athletics program.
The Assistant Director of Strategic Communications will manage media relations for assigned sports, coordinating media coverage for athletic events, keep accurate statistics utilizing Genius software, write press releases, poste on the department’s website, and social media outlets.
This position will assist the assistant director of athletics for strategic communications and the director of strategic communications with day-to-day operation of the office. Additionally, the assistant director will be expected to contribute to department priorities, meetings, and committees.
Hampton University is located in the City of Hampton, Virginia bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Founded in 1868, the highly-regarded HBCU is located in the City of Hampton, Va. bordering the Atlantic Ocean.
Hampton is a member of NCAA Division I (FCS in football) and the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree required with experience in collegiate athletics media relations.
Strong written and verbal skills.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, faculty, alumni, fans, parents, and students.
Strong background in content production, website and social media coordination
Experience with NCAA Live Stats, Genius, and other statistics platforms.
Ability to manage and train a staff of student workers.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
