About This Role:
The Lamar University Athletic Media Relations Specialist will manage media relations for assigned sports within the collegiate athletics department, as well as maintain key communication on the Lamar Athletics webpage. Responsibilities include writing press releases, developing brochures, and coordinating media coverage for athletic events. The specialist also promotes athletes and teams, ensures accurate reporting of game statistics, and handles media inquiries. Strong communication skills and knowledge of collegiate sports are essential. The role involves collaboration with coaches, athletes, and media personnel to enhance the public image of the Lamar athletics program. Position reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Medial Relations.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Assist in all publicity efforts of the department; brochures for all sports, press kits, press releases and specialty brochures as needed.
Assist in the supervision of game statistical and press coverage as assigned.
Assist as a media contact for the athletics department. Interacts on a regular basis with the local electronic and print media.
Position will also focus on certain aspects of web site maintenance (Sidearm Sports) including but not limited to staff bios/directory and videos.
Works cooperatively with the Southland Conference Office.
Perform any additional duties as requested by the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations.
Key Competencies:
Ability to collaborate with other staff members within the Lamar University Athletics department.
Ability to maintain accurate statistical records regarding individual and team records for all sports programs required.
Proven writing ability along with possessing effective interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills required.
Basic computer layout and design knowledge in desktop software required.

Understanding and following of confidentiality/privacy rules and regulations
Strict adherence to established NCAA, Southland Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to the position summary and essential job functions.
Understanding of Statistics Scoring Software (such as Genius LiveStats) and ability to maintain accurate statistical records regarding individual and team records for sports programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience in a University Media Relations office.
