Eligibility: This position can be filled by a graduate student seeking a master’s or doctoral degree.To receive a graduate assistantship, a student must be admitted to the TWU Graduate School and be accepted into a University graduate program of her/his choice.
Conditions of Employment: Graduate assistantships are nine-month appointments from September through May. The graduate assistant stipend is $9,981 ($1,109 per month). In-state tuition must be paid, but the additional cost for an out-of-state student may be waived provided the candidate meets the appropriate academic standards. The Director of Athletics has the option of hiring the GA for a tenth month (August) at the same monthly pay rate as their nine-month appointment.
Responsibilities: The candidate will assist in coverage of sports teams, including game wrap-up articles and social media coverage. The candidate will also help maintain the website and update records. The candidate will coordinate multi-media coverage of the team, including creating hype videos and game videos. Some travel might be required, as well as working events on nights and weekends.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in journalism, business, sports administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired, is required.
Candidates should possess strong written and oral communication skills; proficiency in desktop publishing (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro), new media applications (Twitter and Instagram) and basic computer applications.
Texas Woman's University is a state-funded university with the main campus located in Denton, Texas. We represent the nation's largest university system focused on women, with campuses also in Dallas and Houston. The athletics department is located on the Denton campus.
The total student population is around 16,000 with approximately 89% women and 11% men students. We have nine varsity female sports under the athletic department umbrella and we compete in Division II. Our volleyball, soccer, basketball and softball teams compete in the Lone Star Conference, while our gymnastics team competes in the Midwest Independent Conference. We also sponsor STUNT, an NCAA-emerging sport, and Artistic Swimming. In Fall 2023, we will begin our first season of NCAA women's wrestling.
