For a full-time, academic-year GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 9 graduate credit hours of tuition waiver per semester, with a limit of 18 graduate credit hours per academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.
The graduate assistantship program also covers any tuition differential associated with certain courses. This award does not pay mandatory fees (general fee, student center fee and technology fee), new student record initiation fee, registration fee, late registration fee, drop fees or late fees applied when bills are not paid.
Graduate assistants receive library privileges.
Graduate assistants receive priority registration, provided they register online by the date specified by the Office of Records and Registration as noted in the class schedule book or website (same date as undergraduate Honors students).
Intangible benefits of appointment as a graduate assistant include close contact with staff, faculty, and other graduate students, valuable employment experience within an academic setting.

Eastern Michigan University is accepting applications for three (3) Athletic Media Relations Graduate Assistant positions for the 2023-24 academic year. Located in Ypsilanti, Mich., Eastern Michigan is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and sponsors 19 Division I sports.
Job duties include: Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of a year experience in intercollegiate media relations/sports information work, experience in desktop publishing with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop software, experience in writing and social media, familiarity with NCAA Live Stats/Stat Crew software, and strong communications skills. All candidates should possess the ability to meet deadlines and work nights/weekends. Priority will be given to those with video and/or graphic design experience.
Responsibilities include, but are not confined to: Serving as the primary media contact for at least two sports (secondary football, baseball, gymnastics, swimming & diving, track/cross country, tennis, rowing).
This is a two-year assistantship with an estimated start date of August 1, 2023. The successful applicants must meet the admission requirements for EMU's Graduate School and will be awarded a bi-weekly stipend plus tuition.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • Serve as the primary media contact for at least two sports • Oversee all social media content (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) and assist in the creation of content, including graphics and video, for primary sports with an emphasis on creative story telling. • Manage content on EMUEagles.com including press release, photos, bios and schedules for primary sports. • Assist in the production of video content for EMUEagles.com and ESPN3/ESPN+ • Maintain historical records, statistics and archives for primary sports. • Manage gameday/meetday operations for primary sports and assist in game operations for other sports as needed. • Evening and weekend hours with some travel • Assist in the development of undergraduate interns. • Other duties as assigned, including various research projects and game operations.

Qualifications: • Minimum of one year’s experience in an intercollegiate athletic media relations/communications office. • Must be self-motivated with attention to detail and accuracy • Familiarity with SIDEARM web site maintenance, and Adobe Creative Suite • Working knowledge of video editing software is preferred. • Working knowledge of various NCAA Live Stats/Stat Crew software packages • Experience in writing and editing with knowledge of AP style. • A bachelor’s degree is required with a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale, or 3.0 in the last half of the undergraduate program. Some departments require higher minimum GPAs; see specific program requirements.
