Assistant & Associate Communications/Sports Info/Media Relations Dir (perm.)

This position, with a start date of Spring 2023 and under the direction of the Associate AD/Media Relations, is responsible for serving as the primary contact for Duquesne women’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and M/W tennis.

To assist with planning and implementing communications strategies as they relate to the goals and objectives of Duquesne’s 20-sport Division I athletics programs.
Oversee media relations efforts for assigned programs. Communicate with coaching staffs and media to coordinate interviews, provide timely, accurate information and handle media needs before, during and after competition. Staff home events and supervise the recording of accurate statistical information during events.
To provide timely content for the web including game recaps and previews. To report game results, statistics, student-athlete award nominations, coaches' award nominations and other pertinent information to conference offices, coaches associations and the NCAA.
Charged with developing an integrated brand marketing and communications plan that provides a strategic basis for the entire department, guiding both internal and external correspondence as well as public perception.
Monitor perceptions of Duquesne’s athletics programs and coordinate strategic messaging in conjunction with the marketing and branding department.
Work closely with marketing and branding to develop social media content with a strong focus on specific networks (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter).
Assist with hosting NCAA and Atlantic 10 Championship events.
Maintain a working knowledge of and adherence to NCAA, Atlantic 10, Northeast Conference and institutional rules and regulations. Communicate any possible infractions to the compliance staff.
Self-starter who works efficiently and is prepared to offer new and creative ways to conquer traditional tasks. Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively. Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills. Contribute to a positive department environment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong organizational skills and an ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, administrative staff, parents, alumni and the University community.
Must be available to work evenings and weekends as well as travel as required.
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, master’s degree preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Attention to detail is a must.
Minimum of three years of meaningful experience in media relations, athletics communications or sports information.
Ability to create and update documents using Adobe InDesign.
Ability to create and update graphics using Adobe Photoshop.
Experience with the NCAA Genius statistical platform and ability to troubleshoot game statistics.
Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Basic graphic design experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.
Knowledge of, and experience with, SIDEARM Sports web site client preferred.
