The Sports Information Department at Lees-McRae College is the hub for all internal and external communication efforts for 21 NCAA Division II programs, Two Division I Cycling teams, and three club sports teams. The Assistant Athletic Director—Director of Sports Information will serve as a member of the athletic department leadership team and oversee all efforts of the sports information office by learning, developing, and executing strategies for web, social media, and media relations in order to promote and market Lees-McRae student-athletes, teams, and the department in general. This position will also oversee all game-day operations including visiting team locker rooms, officials, and pre-game setup. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefitted position.

Essential Functions

• Serve as a primary sport contact for all Lees-McRae athletic programs, while providing game-day coverage for all programs.
• Serve as a member of the athletic department leadership team.
• Coordinate and strategize on marketing and promotional opportunities.
• Conduct all aspects of pre-game, in-game, and post-game coverage for all home contests.
• Create plans to assist with raising awareness of the athletic department to fully implement annually.
• Measure data of athletic communications to best support initiatives.
• Actively contribute professional content to the Lees-McRae Athletics website (www.lmcbobcats.com).
• Oversee all aspects of game-day operations, including pre-game setup, visiting team locker rooms, and post-game take down.
• Represent the college in a positive manner through various social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
• Maintain and update accurate historical records.
• Hire, train, and supervise the work-study and student intern staff.
• Nominate Lees-McRae student-athletes for the conference, regional, and national awards.
• Maintain professionalism in communication internally with coaches, administrators, student-athletes, and student workers and externally with members of the media, colleagues at opposing institutions, and visitors to Lees-McRae College.
• Will report to the Vice President of Athletics and Club Sports

Applicants should be proficient in all essential sports information duties such as writing press releases, serving as the main statistician for all home events, and communicating with fellow SIDs for away or neutral-site contests. Computer proficiency including word processing, statistical programs, current design, desktop publishing software, and SIDEARM website maintenance are all needed in this position. Additionally, applicants should possess strong managerial qualities that allow them to multi-task successfully.

• Must possess an undergraduate degree in sports management, communications, journalism, or another relevant major.
• Work experience in compiling game statistics for a variety of sports.
• 1-2 years experience in athletics communications/sports information
• Knowledge of desktop publishing and an understanding of print and broadcast journalism practices and deadlines
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Must possess some experience in game-day operations
• This role requires exceptional initiative, communication, and organizational skills.
