Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for the leadership of our athletic communications office.  Duties include the positive promotion of Roanoke College Athletics in addition to website management, historical records, and statistics. The successful candidate will also supervise all athletic web stream productions, as well as the social media platforms that exist to promote Roanoke College Athletics in general, our teams and their student-athletes.  This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position with full college benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

• Post event stories and statistics within 48 hours of event on the athletic website.
• Develop and implement social media efforts for each of our sports as well as the department.
• Handle all NCAA and ODAC requests for statistics, information and promotion of RC athletes.
• Provide and maintain athletic records by year (seasons), coach and league versus non-league contests.
• Keep a photo file updated on each sport.
• Assist with the administration of NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by the City of Salem and Roanoke College.   
• Coordinate the reporting of scores and highlights for all report game scores and highlights such as All-America awards for all 23 teams to all major media outlets.
• Direct press row seating and operations during all home basketball games in the Cregger Center
• Travel and act as a media and/or college representative for NCAA championship events.
• Develop a positive relationship with the local media including newspaper, television and radio journalists to insure quality coverage for the College’s sports programs.
• Work with the director of athletics in compiling athletic information for the annual and interim reports.
• Act as liaison between the athletic department and the student body and campus community to promote and provide information on Maroon activities.
• Hire and supervise independent contractors and/or students to serve as athletic communications staff (play-by-play, camera, etc.)
• For our athletic communications operation, conduct general game day preparation, operation and breakdown of equipment after each intercollegiate event in the following sports: men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s basketball, field hockey, baseball and softball, men’s and women’s volleyball, and wrestling.
• Assist the Director of Public Relations in the positive promotion of Roanoke College and, specifically, Roanoke College Athletics.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 1-3 years’ experience working in similar position.
• Ability to lead and direct student employees.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet firm deadlines.
• Must be effective at listening, to, understanding and addressing concerns and issues.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse population.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, or holidays.
