SPORTS INFORMATION GRADUATE POSITION

Two-year position beginning in August of 2022 includes tuition reimbursement, an $8,000 stipend per year plus the option to earn a summer hourly wage. 

Basic Function:

Assist the athletic communication department in coverage and promotion of the Golden Flashes 19 Division-I athletic programs. Successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Athletics Communication

Examples of duties/essential functions

• Independently manage stats, coverage and promotion of multiple Olympic programs, typically one per sport season
• Independently manage a working press box/row for assigned sports.
• Write game notes, programs, recaps, feature stories and press releases for assigned sports
• Nominate and promote team and student-athletes for awards on the conference and national level
• Promote Kent State athletics and student-athletes through social media
• Assist athletic communications staff for select home events
• Willingness to travel with assigned teams for post-season tournaments or marquee events
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in sports administration, communication, journalism or other related field
• Experience in a college athletic communications office
• Knowledge of Stat Crew and/or Genius Sports
• Knowledge of SideArm web platform
• Familiarity with the Adobe Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends
• Must meet the admission requirements for graduate school at Kent State

Graduate Assistant– Athletic Communications Video (GFTV) (1 Position)

Two-year position beginning in August of 2022 includes tuition reimbursement, an $8,000 stipend per year plus summer hourly wage. 

Basic Function:

Assist in the planning, development, and dispersal of video to social media and other outlets to showcase Intercollegiate Athletics’ accomplishments and programs. Reports to Video Producer for athletic communications or designated supervisor.

Examples of duties/essential functions:

• Independently managing videography and editing for video productions and live video broadcasts.
• Providing video camera operation for single and multiple coverage and lighting for video projects.
• Setting and striking of studio and field productions, performing technical tasks related to video production, transporting production equipment, and overseeing studio operations and equipment maintenance and repair.
• Editing video, selecting music and designing digital video effects and graphics in order to create a finished product.
• Coordinate interviews and video sessions with sports information directors.
• Promote Kent State athletics through use of social media.
• May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required; preferred in digital media, journalism, or communication. Experience in sports broadcasting or relevant area. Must be able to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends.  Must meet the admission requirements for graduate school at Kent State.

Knowledge Of:

• Knowledge of field production techniques, standards and skills in visualizing and shooting concepts.
• Hand-held camera expertise and use of camera stabilization and support equipment such as C-Stands, Gimbal, sliders, etc.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Production for video production.
• Strong project/time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Ability To:

Work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends.  Possible travel with teams.
