Old Dominion University, located in the City of Norfolk in the metropolitan Hampton Roads region of coastal Virginia, is a state-assisted, Carnegie doctoral/research-extensive institution that serves its students and enriches the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world through rigorous academic programs, strategic partnerships, and active civic engagement. The Old Dominion Monarchs are composed of 18 intercollegiate athletic teams. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, football, golf, sailing, soccer, swimming, and tennis. Women's sports include basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, golf, sailing, soccer, swimming, tennis, rowing, and volleyball. The Monarchs compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
