This recruitment will be used to fill three full-time Assistant Director-Integrated Communications positions for the Department of Athletics at Oregon State University (OSU).

The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.).

The Integrated Communications Unit handles all the department’s media activities. The Assistant Director is responsible for creating and maintaining the national public face of the Athletic Department and Oregon State University based upon national standards set forth in the industry, within the sports that they are assigned. The work of the unit is highly visible in a national public arena and the Assistant Athletic Director must be aware of the ever-changing environment and make adjustments to this environment independently and constantly.

This position serves as manager and acts as a liaison between media representatives and the coaches, administrators and student athletes; responsible for promoting sports through press releases featuring upcoming events and game story recaps, as well as keeping a wide array of records for all intercollegiate athletics, coordinates most or all game-day activities as they relate to communications. This position is the lead all social media channels related to the sports that they are assigned. Makes independent decisions and recommendations to the assistant athletic director or coach regarding reactive and proactive media responses and the appropriate outlets. The Director is responsible for providing professional writing assistance in publicizing the intercollegiate varsity sports programs within the Athletics Department. The Director will provide media training to all student-athletes and coaches in their respective assignments. The position will function with considerable initiative and independence in the composition of original copy.

Minimum/Required Qualifications 
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, English or equivalent subject.

Three (3) years of experience in a Media Relations office at a university or with collegiate athletics in some capacity.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated reliability and ability to perform under deadline pressure.

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with conflicting deadlines.

Must be flexible to travel with assigned teams for competitions as required, including weekends and/or holidays.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

This position is designated as a critical, security-sensitive or safety-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be deemed fit for duty at placement and while serving in the position.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications    
Experience in an NCAA Division I Athletic Media Relations Office.

Familiarity with the following: desktop publishing, Stat Crew software and XOS online services.

Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations.
