Rutgers University-Newark Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites applications for the 10-month position (August – May) of Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant.
Rutgers University-Newark is a NCAA Division III program with 14 intercollegiate teams, and is a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
Benefits include tuition and fees waiver for 24 credits per year, and an annual stipend of $8,000 if they DON’T live on campus. Graduate Assistants will be responsible for their own health care and parking permits. Housing contracts are for 10 months. Start date is August 8, 2022. The Graduate Assistant will report to the Director of Athletics Communications.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Event coverage (statistical compilation, live streaming, camera operation, staffing games and public address announcing)
- Writing and editing of releases, student-athlete biographies and feature stories
- Website content creation and maintenance
- Recording and editing video of home events and interviews
- Contributing to the Scarlet Raiders’ social media platforms
- Graphic design
- Archiving of information
- Assisting in the management of student assistants
- Adhering to all NCAA, New Jersey Athletic Conference and Rutgers-Newark rules and regulations
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree; studies in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field is highly preferred
- Strong writing, editing and communication skills, particularly in a public relations setting, is highly preferred
- Prior experience with statistical software programs (Statcrew, NCAA Live Stats), InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as prior experience in a college sports information setting, is highly preferred
- Proven success in a deadline-oriented environment
- Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as well as holidays
- Candidate must be accepted to one of 21 graduate programs offered at the University
