The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) is accepting applications for the Assistant Commissioner of Strategic Initiatives Internship. The position offers the candidate the opportunity to immerse themselves in all aspects of collegiate athletic administration at the conference level over the two-year appointment. The duties and responsibilities will be wide-ranging and extensive in an effort to provide a meaningful, hands-on experience, with an in-depth appreciation for the NCAA Division III model. The position will report directly to the CSAC commissioner but also work closely with the CSAC assistant commissioner. The assistant commissioner of strategic initiatives will be involved in the conference’s day-to-day operations, including but not limited to: strategic planning; athletics communication and promotions; championships; conference governance; and more. The position is funded primarily through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Strategic Planning (30%)
- With the commissioner, coordinate with an outside consulting firm and/or internal constituents to conduct a review of conference operations.
- Take a key role in developing a short-term conference strategic plan.
- Work with presidents, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletics representatives, administrators, coaches, and conference staff to meet deadlines identified within the strategic plan.
- Athletics Communications and Promotions (30%)
- Develop and execute a one-year promotional celebration of the conference’s 30th anniversary with feature stories, events, and other features.
- Assist with marketing efforts for the conference.
- Construct brand standards and usage guidelines.
- Support efforts to establish a conference streaming network.
- Expand the social media presence of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other platforms, especially those utilized by student-athletes.
- Establish a CSAC podcast series.
- Assist with maintenance of csacsports.com website.
- Maintain the conference’s 30-year archive
- Produce photography and video productions.
- Championships (20%)
- Represent the conference at championship events.
- Work with host institutions to oversee conference postseason events including event operations and game management.
- Establish a championship evaluation survey instrument and interpret results to identify future championship enhancement opportunities.
- Coordinate the assignment and payment of officials.
- Conference Governance (15%)
- Attend meetings and events; participate in conference calls.
- Coordinate agendas and minutes for meetings and conference calls.
- Serve as a liaison to the CSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
- Update conference documents.
- Take the lead in planning educational events for coaches and student-athletes.
- Other duties/projects as assigned by the Commissioner (5%)
- Additional items may include: compliance; scheduling; accounting; awards; or film exchange.
Bachelor’s degree required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent writing and verbal communication skills, and have experience working with multicultural and diverse groups of people. Computer skills and experience with Adobe Suite, social media platforms and website maintenance are desired but the conference can provide additional training in these areas. Previous work experience in athletic administration and knowledge of NCAA rules is preferred, and a desire to work in college athletics is required.
