The Sports Information Director is responsible for disseminating information and promoting New Mexico Junior College’s intercollegiate programs. Coordinate the content on the New Mexico Junior College Department of Athletics web page nmjcthunderbirds.com to include: Write game day stories and events to be published on the web page Program records and archives – updated daily, weekly, monthly, yearly Increase content for: Facilities Booster Club Athletics policies and hand books Athlete Bio’s Recreation Serves as the NMJC Athletics Department’s primary spokesperson, media liaison, and website administrator Manages all NMJC Athletic social media accounts, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. Manages electronic marquee, digital scoreboards, and video displays Manages public address announcer, statistician, stats caller, scoreboard, shot clock, game clocks, and camera operators at home games Arranges materials and equipment for media, scouts, game day support staff (clock operator, 30-second clock operator, public address announcer) and guests at men’s and women’s athletic home events Designs and edits game day programs Manages Presto Sports Familiarity with mechanics of NEVCO scoring device, and Score Shotz software Must be familiar with Score Shotz software Assist with planning and promoting New Mexico Junior College Department of Athletics games and events through well written media releases Research and update New Mexico Junior College Department of Athletics programs historical records Assist with game administration and management when available Assist with radio program and broadcast content when available Assist with social media efforts for marketing, promotions, engagement Manage and update photograph files of athletes, staff and alumni Manage the 3 video boards and electronic score table from a marketing standpoint Manage and develop the nmjcthunderbirds.com athletic website. Must be available and willing to work after normal hours to attend games and athletic events Must be available and willing to travel to athletic events within the WJCAC conference and nationally to NJCAA competitions. Must be committed to excellence. Oversees student workers assigned to games Other duties as assigned Build an organized SID structure and format that can be followed by program leaders for years to come.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field required. One year of sports journalism or related experience; writing, editing, and organizational experience; knowledge of college athletics; knowledge of software applicable to the design of publication, marketing materials and website management is preferred. Sound background and knowledge of sports information and communications.

Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of proper grammar and appropriate form. Knowledge of public relations and marketing strategies. Knowledge of social media and website uses, and content effects. Skill in writing all types of communication to include social media postings, press releases, articles, reports, and speeches. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in developing newsletter and website layout, navigation, and design. Willingness to learn skills outside of comfort zone. Ability to operate a personal computer, standard programs, and some specialized programs. Ability to participate as a member of the community to enhance awareness of NMJC.
